| The direct vincinity of the campground is absolutely beautiful. Various nature parks are within short distance. The Hijkerfield ("Het Hijkerveld") is a vast heath and forest area at only 4 kilometres cycling. A large flock of Schoonebeker sheep roams the fields and stay overnight in the cote. The ANWB-marked cycling route "Beilerdingspelroute" passes through the Hijkerfield. At 7 kilometres you can find the Drents-Frisean Forest ("Het Drents-Friese Woud"). This is a very large area were you can hike and bike many miles. The National Park Dwingelderveld is at 10 kilometre distance. The park has a rich selection of flora and fauna. There is a large piece of heath, a sheepcote and a visitor's centre. The park rangers organise many activities for the youngsters and there are various children's hiking paths. Within the boundaries of the park one can find the Planetron, a planetarium. The largest living peat-moot swamp of The Netherlands, the Fochtelooërveen, lies also within cycling distance. The peat exploitation is still visible at many places. Behind Beilen is the Terhorsterbeach ("Het Terhorsterzand"). An area with forest, heath and fens. There is a free swimlake. Next to all this nature there are many old picturesque villages to visit.
Dwingelo has a beautiful old village centre with a large square.
Diever has still retained much of its medieval centre with information centre, Many hiking and cycling routes start here, leading to the Drents-Frisean Forest.
Overlte is a well-known museum village with some well-preserved old farms. Here, you can find an exciting adventure trail for (young) children: Theodoor's path ("Het Pad van Theodoor"). The campground is also a nice startingpoint for hikers of the long-distance trail "Het Drenthepad". See for details www.nivon.nl.
